Message from Richard K. Ellis, Candidate for Treasurer
For the first time in 28 years, state delegates have an opportunity to choose between two Republican candidates for State Treasurer. Many probably wonder why this race makes a difference to them. I can think of 12 billion reasons why it matters.
Yes, it’s about money. The State Treasurer is the custodian of public moneys, including a $12 billion investment portfolio. A portfolio that needs an experienced professional to make investment decisions, especially in today’s volatile markets. These investments generated $480 million of income last year-money that didn’t come from taxpayers pockets, helping to keep taxes down.
As the chief deputy state treasurer, I have made strategic investment decisions. I have purchased securities, written investment policies, and worked on asset allocation studies. I have “hands on” investment experience.
As a state delegate, ask the tough questions of the candidates. Make sure he has the experience that you think is necessary to be State Treasurer. It’s your money. Don’t you want an experienced professional taking care of it?
