Message from Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., Candidate for Governor
April 8, 2008
Dear State Delegate:
Congratulations on being elected as a State Delegate for the Utah Republican Party. I trust you will find the experience informative and rewarding.
When I first ran for office in the 2004, with the help of several business and community leaders, I put together a 10 point plan for growing Utah’s economy. We wanted to craft policies that would foster a business friendly climate in Utah, with the goal of recruiting new businesses and jobs to the state while at the same time making it easier for local businesses to grow and expand. We have now successfully implemented each of the 10 points, and our state is seeing the results of this economic development plan. And thanks to a strong economy, over the past three years we have funded public education at record levels, implemented historic tax reform and recruited several new businesses and hundreds of jobs to the state — but there is still work to be done.
As we enter this election season, I’m again asking for your support in order to finish what we have started. As the national economy slows, we need steady leadership and good public policy to sustain our economic growth, increase public education funding and strengthen our quality of life. Please visit my website: www.huntsman08.com to see a list of my policy priorities.
Finally, I wanted to invite you to a pre-convention reception on the evening of Friday May 9th in Salt Lake City. Further information will be sent to you, but please save the date on your calendars. If you have any questions please visit my website, you can find our campaign contact information listed there.
Sincerely,
Jon M. Huntsman, Jr.
Governor

Message from Charles “Chuck” Smith, Candidate for Governor
I have a vision. It is to see the people of Utah become the richest people of the 21st century. We have been told that there is more than enough for the whole earth to be rich beyond our fondest imaginations; there is enough pressed down, shaken together and running over. How do we become wealthy? We have been told to multiply our talents even a 100 fold.
Most cannot yet see this vision for they are blinded by misconception. We laugh about our forefathers who thought the world was flat or that the sun and moon orbit around the earth. Well the moon does orbit the earth but the earth orbits the sun. You have to look close to see the unobvious. Today is no different. We still have many misconceptions that keep us bound to mediocrity. I was in a classroom where a teacher was explaining physic’s concepts to her class. She had two students stand up one behind the other. Ringing a bell she asked the student behind the other if he could hear the bell ring. He said yes. Then she pointed a flashlight at the first and asked the student behind if he could see the light. He said no. She preceded to explain that this was proof that sound is a wave and light is a particle. After class I asked the teacher if she had a cell phone. She said yes. I said how does it work inside a building. And she said the waves come through the walls. I told her that light is the same as the waves that make her phone work and that they do pass through solid objects but they change so that you cannot see them with your eyes. The idea that light is a particle is a misconception and this seemingly small misconception has held us back for 100 years in energy development and polluted the earth. We have not even begun to scratch the surface in utilizing the knowledge that is available to us already today.
The key to riches is energy. We are under the misconception that energy is in short supply. The truth is that we are completely submerged in energy pressed down, shaken together and running over. The key to using this energy is multiplying our talents.
A vision is seen by one but has to be realized by a group. A visionary has to point out the misconceptions to the group and show them how to see the unobvious. That is why I stand before you today. We are starting the movement that will lift all Utahn’s to great riches so that our storehouses will be full to over flowing and we can go throughout the earth doing much good.
By now your hearts have been pricked and you are trying to decide to like or dislike the things you have heard. To hear things such as I have just said can cause fear and anger. To overcome these feeling takes courage. Courage is not the absence of fear but the ability to control one’s fear or loathing so that one can explore the unknown. With courage we begin to see the unobvious and find more truth. We all know that only truth will make us free.
We have many issues to decide upon and we have a definite divide as to how to go about making these decisions. I hope that you will take courage and seek to get to know me and more about what I am sharing with you. It would be great for this generation to be the one that makes a difference. I will continue to share my vision with your sons and daughters that are in school. However, it would be great for you as parents to take up the torch and multiply your talents, so we can bring to bear the tremendous energy that we are submersed in to lift this earth and its people to the richness that is intended for us all.
